Enteric organisms are the major causes of gastroenteritis. There are approximately 100 trillion bacteria in the intestine of an average human. Several of these bacteria are of medical importance to the human system while a few others are pathogenic, which means that they cause diseases and infections.
Enteric organisms are pathogenic organisms that enter the body through the mouth and leave within the intestine. They are acquired through contaminated water and food. They are also transmitted through contact with the faeces of infected animals, person or the environment. Examples of bacteria which are enteric organisms are Campylobacter, Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Vibrio spp, and Yersinia. Enteric viruses are Astrovirus, Adenovirus, Rotavirus, Norovirus and Sapovirus. Enteric parasites include Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium.
Symptoms of enteric infections are diarrhoea, cramping, fever, nausea, vomiting, chills and loss of appetite.
Enteric Organisms Rapid Detection is the detection of bacteria, viruses and parasites which causes infections in humans. This is done by Multiplex real-time PCR method. The Enteric Organisms Rapid Detection test is a quick method of detecting intestinal pathogenic microorganisms. It saves time, leading to an early diagnosis and treatment.
Treatment can be done with the use of medications as prescribed.
