Luteinizing hormone is produced by the pituitary gland which is located at the base of the brain. The production of luteinizing hormone is stimulated by hypothalamic gonadotropin-releasing hormone. Luteinizing hormone is transported in the bloodstream to the testes where it stimulates Leydig cells to stimulate the synthesis and secretion of testosterone and androgen.
LH Blood Test measures the level of luteinizing hormone in the blood. The level of LH does not change very much in men. This test is important in detecting the cause of infertility, low sperm count and low sex drive in men. Symptoms of inadequate or excess luteinizing hormone in the blood are fatigue, weakness, unexplained weight loss and decreased appetite.
Low levels of LH indicates a disorder of the pituitary gland or hypothalamus. High levels of LH implies damaged testicles due to chemotherapy, radiation, infection and alcohol abuse. It can also indicate Klinefelter’s syndrome.
To get your luteinizing hormone level analyzed, your best choice is MedBioTech Laboratory.
